How it all began..
A vision for a sunset party at Burning Seed came to life!
A fateful adventure to discover Burning Man in Australia changed Jasper’s life.
He took the adventure, a 7-hour road trip West from Sydney to discover Burning Seed back in 2013. What he experienced was mind-opening! A community without judgement that encourages full self-expression and inclusion.
He was inspired to bring his friends the next year with a vision for a theme camp they could create - a destination to enjoy the amazing sunsets.
The very next year Sunset Island was born. From humble beginnings, the gathering grew every year as Burning Seed got larger. Everyone knew when and where to go - they followed the sunset as they walked into a beautiful gathering of joy, dance, dress-ups, performances and sublime music. It became the place where 1000’s of people from all walks of life danced into sunset together.
Thrown into the party scene. The struggle to find the balance
Jasper discovered a more colourful and creative version of himself. Hosting many fun themed fundraising parties with his friends so they could deliver Sunset Island each year.
However, the parties finished late and included the usual cocktail of drugs and alcohol. It became a challenge to find the balance with the healthy and active lifestyle he loved. Having struggled with anxiety, the late nights and hangovers took their toll.
Eventually, it was hitting rock bottom with depression where he knew it was time for change. Taking a trip to the Bali Spirit Festival to reconnect with himself, he ended up dancing for hours every night on ecstatic dance floors completely sober. He was amazed how ‘high’ he got naturally and he liternally danced his depression away.
He knew his passion and experience for organising parties could be applied to pave the way for a new more healthy way to party with a purpose.
But what would an amazing party be like without alcohol and drugs?
Xstatic Sunsets Launches on Shark Island
Experiencing the magic of dancing into the sunset and the fun of costuming at Burning Seed - the concept for Xstatic Sunsets became clear. Themed dress-up parties at sunset!
Leading to the question of sunset venue for a launch event. We just couldn’t go past Shark Island with the best view of sunset in Sydney.
Despite National Parks banning parties on the island, we were able to get them over the line with our social impact mission and given it was drug and alcohol-free. The date was set for the 3rd April 2019. We just needed the sun to shine.
The day was spectacular! Themed on dancing through the decades, people dressed as their favourite decade creating a sea of colour and high vibes.
As we danced into the most magical sunset right in the middle of Sydney Harbour we couldn’t believe how ‘high’ the energy was. The dance floor went off! It was hard to believe everyone was sober!
Concept proven - Our purpose became clear
The launch event was a hands-down success with rave reviews from people of all ages.
We proved there was no compromise in the party without alcohol and other drugs. The natural high felt by everyone was all-pervading.
We realised how powerful this experience can be for someone who has never experienced it. It’s mind-opening and inspiring. Why would you ever get wasted again knowing you can feel so good naturally? We knew this would help people moderate and find the balance to support their mental health.
COVID took us down the rabbit hole
As we were building momemtum COVID put a stop to the fun. Did we ever imagine we would have rules for no dancing!
To keep the community engaged we created a crowd funding campaign to sell tickets to an after Covid party themed on Alice in Wonderland with a giant Mad Hatters Tea Party!
Next came finding the perfect venue - Belmore Park in the CBD of Sydney. Then a City of Sydney Grant to help fund Xstatic Wonderland.
But El Nina has other ideas with wet weather leading to more postponments and putting the event on the rocks. The NSW Goverment then stepped in, as we were successful in securing a grant to re-activate the CBD.
Eventually after 6 postponments we moved Wonderland to Sydney Town Hall where it happened in spectacular style on 22/10/22.
However, Jasper was burnt out and without funding support we had to close our doors as an NFP.
Relaunching in 2026
The timing finally seems right for alcohol free parties! As our younger generations choose not to consume alcohol and with growing issues of loneliness we feel our concept is needed more than ever.
With alot of lessons behind us we prepare to launch as a Social Enterprise for profit to support sustainability and expansiion. A rebranding to ‘Xstatic’ as a brand which can be streched over a wider range of offerings to support our public events.
We are excited to relaunch this year. Watch this space!
